Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Gules a bar abased Or overall a pile of the like charged with a cross of Lorraine Azure.  Attached below and to the sides of the shield a tripartite Gold scroll inscribed LOCATE FIRE DESTROY in black letters.

Symbolism
Scarlet and yellow are for Artillery.  The triangle and bar represent a deflection fan and bar chart used for Artillery.  The Lorraine cross is blue to represent the units Infantry origins, and represents battle service as Infantry in Europe, World War I and Artillery in World War II.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 5 December 1966.
